The short answer is yes.

You might say abuse is a social disease. Attitudes towards children and child-rearing vary between cultures, subcultures, and even smaller social groups like families; some tolerate more corporeal punishment than others. Those who suffer this form of punishment learn that it's okay to practice, and go on to practice it themselves later in life, thereby perpetuating the cycle. There is some evidence that there may be genetic factors in aggressiveness, which could also play a role in abuse, but it's difficult to separate genetics from upbringing. Naturally, if you're drunk or suffering from other imbalances in brain chemistry, you could be more likely to resort to various forms of abuse.

It is the way you were brought up, if there was alot of child abuse in your family then there is likely to carry on in the family. I don't know it could be a chemical imbalance, but i do not think it is a disease.

The strongest link to child abuse has to do with lack of parenting skills. They usually resort to abuse when they don't know any other way to handle a situation. Also, depression or other mental disorders can have very strong ties to abuse. But all of these factors are JUST factors.

I think it is a chemical imbalance, a form of sexuality not accepted by our society, but it has been around for ages, and in the ancient times, strangely enough, it was accepted, like in ancient Greece. Its a good thing it is not accepted now though, since it damages the lifes of children and their mentality.

It's upbringing. If the child is exposed to nothing else but the abuse, they grow up thinking this is the way to treat people.
