Jesus said that the first man is born of water & the second man is born spiritually. This is done by confession and faith in Jesus Christ the Lord, Son of God & Lamb of God without blemish. All have sinned and come short of God's glory except Jesus, the Lamb of God who paid for our sins on the cross and rose up for our justification. So therefore, the new birth. The old man is dead, and the new man in Christ is everlasting.

I'll try to answer it by not using the scriptures. The belief of being born again comes from the bible so that means naturally only Christians believe that. But Christians themselve don't agree on the exact meaning of what is being said. Some tend to argue that it is for those who have not known Christ from the very beginning, some believe that it was purposely for Christians who are sinners and should renew his faith on God, some say that it was for those who confess themselves as Christians but do not exactly live life the true Christian way.
Many interpret it as this or that but if we look deeper on the exact meaning the way John wanted it to be, it simply means REPENTANCE of those who have strayed away from God may he be Jews or Pagan (Gentiles). It was actually an open invitation of John in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to gather, unite and believe the teachings of Jesus Christ.
When you were baptized a Christian, you should not be born again but only repent from your sins and renew your old sinful ways. Being born again is a renewal through Christ.

I think it means this:
first, we must know what a new-born is.
A new-born has no prejudice. It is a creature full of weakness and great trust. It is easily killed, but mostly welcomed. It's face is cute and it's potential is great. A new-born occurs everywhere: within great houses and pitiful houses. With indifference and with anticipation.
second, we must realize that in a spiritual sense, to be born as a christian, we are born into the house of the lord. We share "Bethelhem" with him. "Beth" = house "elhem" = of the Lord. We share his life. So it is good.
Third, realize that when Chist said this, he was talking about baptism with water, compared to baptism of the Holy Spirit. The water washes away our sins. A spiritual baptism, however, he meant as a prophecy for the time of pentecost, or when the Holy Spirit descended upon the Blessed Virgin Mary and the apostles who were gathered in the upper room 50 days after his death.
It also means that Christ promised us his help, his spirit will always be with us, but we must have faith and pray for the Holy Spirit. That's my belief. And then once that comes to you, you must treasure it. You will never see the world in the same way again.

It simply means you must experience a "rebirth" of the spirit through your faith in Jesus Christ as the Son of God who was sent as a sacrifice for sins and your decision to follow God's will for our lives.
Being saved means literally saved from the fires of hell. If someone is unsaved, well, you can guess...it means they have no protection or safety from the fires of hell.
Some Christians like to throw around slang terms such as "born again" and being "saved" when they don't bother to explain what it means. I can understand why non-Christians would find it annoying. I'm a Christian and I find it annoying.

Only foolish(bewitched) christians speak of the unsaved, law impute sin & death for the hell of it; not knowing (forgive them, for they know not) "there is no respect of persons with God"; So either all are saved (by grace) or none are saved (by law). They do sow because they've been erroneously taught you too can have partiality with an impartial God, which is not only a devilish lie, but an oxyMORON with BAD ending, such as life + DEATH.
It is notably "ye"(do err) that "must be born again",
Jn 3:3,7 and it's to "see" the "kingdom of God",
which is within "you", not with nor in "ye"(do err).
http://www.godshew.org/YeYou.htm
Being "born again" is biblically defined in 1Peter 1:23,
not of corruptible seed: law, but of incorruptible: grace,
notably by the word of God (grace), which liveth forever.
The "grace" of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

i think the new testament hints at a belief in reincarnation that was obviously edited out of the texts. i do think the jesus movement taught that john the baptist was the reincarnation of the prophet elijah. it seems as though jesus was talking to nicodemus the pharasee about the need for rebirth to attain god's kingdom. here, i don't think he was talking about his own eartly kingdom that he wished to establish by driving out the romans. back then the religion, country, people, were one and the same entity. so there was a politico/ religious doctrine that they had going around.

i When we mean born again we don't mean physically but spiritually through Christ Jesus who set us free from the law of sin and death
and I'm sorry if any believers tried to make you convert to Christianity because the choice is yours. I'm just saying that I believe that when when Adam and Eve sinned that made it so that we would go to Hell forever but when Jesus God's son lived a perfect life and in a traders stead he made it so if we believe in him that we would not parish but have Eternal life with him so just say that you believe in him and ask to be forgiven because (all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God) of coarse that includes me to no offense to any one but that's what I believe.

We say it because Jesus said it in John chapter 3. To be born again means to repent and personally invite Jesus into your heart and follow him and not the world.

To be born once when you're six or seven pounds is tough enough. Those who are born again when they weigh 150 to 200 pounds have no consideration for their mother, poor lady.
