I have a 4 month old pug and he's starting to stink. I want to give him a bath and make him smell nice. What's the best way to do this, and can I put a little baby powder on his coat

BATH: Get some puppy shampoo and bath your puppy only as often as is required, usually once every month or two. After bathing, towel the puppy dry as much as possible, and then let them dry naturally. With a small puppy, after bathing they may become very cold and shiver uncontrollably, even in summer. Provide them with a warm place to stay, or cuddle them in their blanket until dry. You may use a hair dryer, although it will take several attempts to accustom your puppy to the sensation and noise.

LONG HAIR: Once dry, use an ordinary dog brush or a long haired dog brush to go over the coat thoroughly. But, use only those brushes which have the tips of the teeth protected with a plastic knob or dot. The large, oval shaped headed brush with metal bristles tipped with plastic are wonderful. Brush the fur the opposite way to fluff it and remove all tangles, and then gently brush back down at the end.

CLAWS: You may find that as a puppy the claws need extra attention, growing very quickly. Be careful not to clip the claws too closely, as if the quick is cut the claw will bleed and your puppy will yelp and cry. They must have their claws clipped about every two weeks.

Usually I just put the dogs outside when the sprinklers are running and that gets the dust off.

If they're really stinky, just bathe them like you would a kid - fill up the tub and use either a baby shampoo or a dog shampoo. You don't want to use soap, dishwashing detergent or adult shampoo b/c dogs need the oil in their coat.

I wouldn't put baby powder on his coat. One, he can inhale it (which is bad), two, he'll lick it off.

Just wash him off and he'll be happy.

BTW, close the door to the bathroom unless you want water sprayed all over the house. If the puppy escapes before you've dried him off, the first thing he'll do when he gets to an open area in the house is shake all the water off his coat. Very messy. I speak from experience.

Well, at first, go to a pet store and buy some nice, dog shampoo and a doggie brush. Next, go home, put a collar and leash on your puppy so he won't be able to run away. Not too tight, though. After that, pour some clean, lukewarm water on your dog, mix some doggie shampoo with some water, pour some on your dog, then lather. Do this on every part of your dog's body, but be careful with the eyes. After he's all..soaped..carefully rinse his body with some more water. Dry him with a soft towel, then brush his fur.

P.S. Make sure you don't take too long bathing him, 'cause if a dog is wet for a long period of time, he might feel cold.

There are always different reasons to bathe a dog; perhaps you have a dog that loves rolling around in the mud, or you have to get rid of some parasite on his coat etc. Whatever the reason, it's important to learn how to do this. Make sure to consult with your veterinarian about a special shampoo that goes according to the need of your breed, and make sure to rinse the dog off really well after bathing as not rinsing well can cause irritation to a dog's skin. Follow these steps to bathe your dog:

Well, I'd put about 3" or so of warmish water in the sink and find some puppy shampoo that would be safe on him. Be careful not to get water in his ears (cotton balls work) or shampoo in his eyes. Just rinse him towel him and a little baby powder would be safe.
Be careful! It sounds made up, but pugs can't swim. If they get in deep water they sink like a rock. I had one that tried and we had to dive in and rescue him.

no baby powder, go get some puppy shampoo from the pet store, and bath him in warm water, not hot or cold, in the tub, pugs are small dogs so its not hard cleanign them in your bathtub. before you wash him you might want to brush him to get all the loose hair so it doesnt make such a mess when u get it out of the tub, wash his whole body including his head but be careful not to get it in his eyes, and when u wahs his face dont use soap just clean water., just give him a bath liek a ababy

Use your Sink if you have a sprayer, its smaller then the tub and he wont be able to squirm around as much. Try a little spot first with the baby powder to make sure he's not allergic to it.

If the puppy is small put it in the sink and use dog shampoo, If the dog is big then use a big tub full of water and use dog shampoo. Thats what I do.
