Honestly? I would marry them and let them know how much I truly love them. I will do all I can to make wtheir dreams come true and be faithful to them in everyway. As for a real PRESENT: I would give them something that brings back great memories as well as creates new ones. A "scrapbook" of great times with a few pages only 1/2 done (pics missing) with tickets to hawaii, vegas, beach or what not. So you have the past, the future and of course- the present :)

if it is a boy that you like a lot what u need to do is just be ur self and give him time to come around. along with if it is a girl dont go all out and buy expensive things for her to show that u like her just be urself and just buy a rose or a carnation to show u r intrested in her. so another means in both cases just be ur self and give that person time to come around and things seam to take off just take it slow until u r both ready for the next step of the relationship.
