It can't be anything to expensive. Something I can mail would be best. He falls asleep immediately when he reads, so books are out.

I am getting him a card too.

I would like to have a day spent together. Maybe just an evening. Your time, maybe bring some old pictures and talk about when you were a little girls.

He can even BUY dinner... but... his time, with his girl... will mean so much to him.

That would be a great present.

I go through this every year, its such a nightmare trying to buy things for my father. All he likes is Classical music (radio only, no CDs) and the New Yorker magazine.

People that send him presents usually send gift boxes like boxes of fresh orange and grapefruit, or candy samplers, or sausage/cheese samplers. I guess they figure that the only thing to send someone that is impossible to buy for is food.

I think it would be really nice to take a collection of photographs of you and your family, and then have the prints framed in a nice frame that he could hang and enjoy somewhere in his house. Maybe include something that he would remember of you in there as well, like for example a project you did in elementary school or a poem you wrote for him.

Figure out what kind of music he liked when he was your age. Get him a couple of CD's. My son-in-law's father loves Neil Young. So my son-in-law got him a couple of Neil Young CD's.

The daughter got her father some gardening stuff because he is a gardener.

Pick a hobby or a passion that interests your Dad and get him something from that passion.

I would enjoy a gift certificate to a resturant and the companionship of my daugher (and family) .........perhaps send the certificate with a card. In the card have a selected day and time that you would like to meet him at that restaraunt.

Get him some tickets to his favorite singer or maybe get him a DVD set of his favorite show. Or what would make a great gift is you!

Write him a letter and tell him how much he means to you and how much you really appreciate him for all that he has done for you in your life. That will really let him know how much you love him, the rest is just materialistic stuff that will eventually get put away or never used/worn or liked for that matter...

Recognition, that is what I told my two daughters; that would be good enough for me. You make it sound like he is away from you, how about a nice E-card?
