In the movies you see crystal decanters for liquor, whiskey is supposed to go in one shape and scotch in another and gin in another and so on. I am trying to find the guide that tells you that so i dont have to use tags.

decanters are for wine not spirits. the shape of the decanter is for allowing the wine to breath properly.store your spirits in any shape you want

The decanters you see in the movies are for decoration purposes. High class bars don't use them, but a well-appointed home with a high end bar may have crystal decanters for show. Waterford or Baccarat looks less cheesy that a bottle of Jack Daniels when entertaining snooty guests. Otherwise, liquor and whiskey don't need a decanter for storage. I keep mine in the bottle and in a cabinet so they don't show unless I'm serving a drink.

Red wines, on the other hand, can be improved by serving through a decanter. I don't usually take the time to do it unless the wine needs it. Oxygen helps burst open the flavor of the wine right before serving. Another way to achieve that result is to pour the wine an hour before serving.

I'm not sure about the correct decanter, but I can tell you to NOT store liquor that you will consume in a crystal decanter, crysal is made with LEAD and you can get lead poisioning if you drink the liquor that has been stored in crystal decanters. You can use colored water if you want to fill your decanters with something to make them look pretty. Otherwise, find a glass decanter.
