Well A-Levels is considered a complete 2 year course, with 2 units, 1 for each year. Those units are called AS - Advanced Subsidiary 1, and A2 - Advanced Subsidiary 2. You can do both papers are at one time, or do either or in a separate year. AS alone is half credit, and A2 is another half credit - so to do only one of these units will not be enough for qualifications into higher learning. AS and A2 (or A-Levels in one year) however will prove complete competence in a wide selection of topics.
My coin to you - if required do both. The result - full qualification into tertiary institutions, and for some, exemption of courses with credits for good passes.

If you have other choice, go ahead and do it.
