the blood in your body is red. the appearance of the blue is the veins being close to the surface.

Blood is *never* blue. Blood is described as dark red (venous) or bright red (arterial). Our veins look blue because we are looking at them *through* our skin. The blood inside them is dark red and it doesn't reflect light very well. The blood you see when you get hurt is usually venous blood.

"Some people think that blood inside the body is blue but this myth probably started when someone drew a chart of the human blood system and colored the arteries red and the veins blue. This myth has been around a long time and seems to have a life of its own."

Blood inside your body is red. The brighter red the colour of the blood, the more oxygen it carries. The darker its color, the less oxygen it carries. Arterial blood is generally a brighter red because it has recently passed through the lungs. Venous blood is generally a darker red because it has passed through the capillaries where the oxygen is transferred from the blood to the tissues.

What Color Is Our Blood

Goodness! It's all shades of red silly. It is NOT blue...ever. This rumor started with someone explaining that blood which is less oxygenated is not as red. As your blood moves through you heart and body the oxygen is used up and the blood turns more scarlet. As it moves back through the pulmonary system it is re-infused with oxygen and becomes bright red again. this is why arterial blood is bright red. Blood in your veins is darker because it has less oxygen. It has nothing to do with blood being exposed to air turning red. After all we-ve al had blood drawn in vacuum tubes and as a phlebotomist I'd be mighty alarmed to find myself drawing blue blood.

well it can be two colors . red when it is oxygen rich and blue when it is oxygen poor. you usually can see your veins filled with oxygen poor blood . then when you get a cut it turns red because the air is oxygen rich
