I don't encourage dating on the Internet. Please understand that its not that i am against it, but a lot of people have been duped. I am from Nigeria and own two businesses involving IT, one of them is a cybercafe. You need to come and see boys here posing as girls on a lot sites that offers people the opportunity to meet other people. Friendfinder is one of them. They dupe a lot of unsuspecting people.
I can't blame the sites because there is really no way the can authenticate whether the people are who they say they are or not, but the onus is on those browsing not to give away themselves cheaply. But who will suspect anything when you have been chatting with this person for close to a year and he ask you for a favor, of course you will oblige him. Please be careful.
You could try out friendfinder.com if you are bent on meeting someone though.

I don't think going on the internet will help, you should try a different hobby or go travel or something, but if not try myspace, that might work
