I was raised Catholic but had problems with many of the doctrines and theologies and man made rules all of my life. I love going to Church and their is a certain comfort to the routine (even the smell) of Church. But I just cannot reconcile myself to things like, no sex without marriage, no birth control (I think this is the reason for many unwanted teenage pregnancies, which inevitably lead to the abortion they're also against), unnatural chastity vows by nuns and priests, this is the reason that so many young vulnerable children have been abused by priests, the repression of women, and I just cannot believe that unbaptized babies do not go to Heaven. And the list goes on and on...

For me, being spiritual is having my own personal relationship with God and coming to the realization that God is everything and everywhere, including within each of us. The realization that we are all one, connected by source energy, and that we are all a perfect individuation of God. Just as a drop of water from the ocean is made up of the same matter as the ocean, it takes all the drops put together into one body to create the ocean. I believe it is the same with all souls (human, spirit, animal, vegetation and the inanimate, like earth, air, fire and water) and God.

I am still working to shed my early teachings of God as a God of anger, judgment, revenge and realizing that she is pure love. I am also still reconciling the fact the God is a genderless energy form which makes up all of life, and is everything we see around us, including ourselves.

Being spiritual means finding the god within you. We all have "god" or the "source" or the "energy" within us. Being spiritual means more than just following a script of organized religion. It means following a path, that has actually been followed by many other enlightened souls in history, of innner journey through mediation and study to find truth and enlightenment.

Being spiritual is not an easy path. There are some guides but no one definitive method or book that will tell you everything you need to know. Often there are more questions than answers. Just seek mostly from within. Find out about meditation and that can be the path from which you will find enlightenment.

Religion is an outer expression of an inner sense. Spirituality is that sense.

To be spiritual can be seen as a person not liking structure, or to have been indoctrinated since youth into a particular religion, and later in life find it lacking.

I am spiritual because since I was born, I've had this deep sense of Something Greater. I can see beyond the structure of religion, see the thread of truth that runs through all religion (The Golden Rule).

"Spiritual" is the crux of the matter, underneath the layers of organization, ritual, the trappings of human struggle to comprehend.

You say you believe in spirituality but don't believe in G-d. You say you Love G-d but don't believe in fallowing his path. Don't get Spirituality confused with Belief's, don't get lust confused with love. It seems that some of you fallow this thing you call religion In order to make your self feel complete. Your not and if you continue to corrupt your self with your Ideology you will never be. I want to make my own religion were sin is not a bad thing it is a way of life. You don't have to ask for forgiveness because G-d accepts the fact that you are weak. Like a child who doesn't want to listen to his parents .But because he is just a child and his brain isn't fully functional he will still have joy. a place were you can have sex before marriage and if you cant' afford it. you can have that abortion. and G-d will understand because you were not ready to be a parent. a religion were you don't have to take Responsibility for the things you do nor the results of your actions. wouldn't this be great wouldn't life be so much better if people didn't think about the actions.

I am atheist, but consider myself spiritual. Spirituality, to me, does not need a "god" belief. A short but not exhaustive list of what spirituality means to me:

I look inwards for answers. I take responsibility for my own actions and inactions, and all consequences (Do Unto Others, And It Harm None Do What You Will, etc). I try hard to practice my spirituality off-line and online the best I can. I make my own happiness, my own purpose on earth, my own morals and ethics from what I learned from various world religions and philosophies. I strive to be the best person I can be as according to what I believe, what I am fully capable of, and according to my own morals.

Spirituality is the urge within the human being to find the 'more' of life beyond our material existence. We know that God exists within our being and our spirituality is searching for the understanding of this ideal.

Religion is the community of people who come together to worship God and seek understanding of their God. The two need not be separate.

I figure religion is something one does regularly or religiously to earn their worth or sense of esteem. I hate religion or works stuff. It hurts and causes hurt. It makes you feel guilty.

Spiritual is deep, passionate and relational. There are different types of spirit. The spirit I relate to as my best friend is Holy Spirit. When I am sad, afraid, angry or confused Holy Spirit brings me a COMFORT and rest that I can find no where else.

I think lindalou put it best. Being 'spiritual' does not necessarily mean having a 'god' within you. That is a different form of 'religion'.
