oh Lord now you've got me going. If only more of our tax dollars could be spent on such a good cause instead of wasted on ignorant B.S. These men and women deserve so much more. But no, we have to keep paying for young girls to have babies that they can't afford to feed and take care of. We have to keep people like Charles Manson alive and well in prison. We have to fund ridiculous experiments that don't pertain to ANYTHING of great consequence. I could go on and on but I better stop and try to calm down. lol These men and women are the backbone of our country and I have the greatest respect for them. SUPPORT OUR TROOPS AND OUR VETS.

Veterans of all types get the shaft. I earned some camapign medals when I served. I also got to participate in the new transition program (1992) do you know what I got. I got to fill out a resume and turn it in to the rep. That's it.
Veterans get adequate care at Va hospitals, but the red tape to get treatment can launch a normal person into severe depression thus aggravating any medical conditions.
Veteran job preference is a joke. There may be preference for a government job, but how many four year vets can compete against a civilian with a masters degree? Not many.
How many of the street people that you see are actually veterans? A lot of them are. Why are they on the streets? Why can't our government help our own citizens, before sending money and aid to other countries. Why was our government so lax about keeping our personal information secure. Because they don't care about us. Why haven't we been notified by official correspondence that our personal information had been compromised. Why haven't they launched a program to give us new social security numbers? Now we have to wait and wonder when some scumbag is going to clean out our bank accounts, ruin our credit. Then it will be up to us to fight with the credit companies to get it fixed, which could take years. They don't care about vets, and the majority of the citizens in this country don't care about vets. They are much more concerned about Brad and Angelina and the baby born out of wedlock. What a Wonderful world.

As a five time combat veteran with 23 years of service to this nation I have been looking very hard at the errosion of military benefits that we did have at one point. There have been reductions in the priority of health and dental care that to me were shocking. There is alot that out there that people think that veterans get that frankly aren't what they used to be.
I must say, I didn't join for money, wealth, fame or position... I have truel enjoyed serving the Flag and this Nation. I am however displeased at how senators and congressmen can vote of pay raise, better retirement plans and an increase of health and medical benefits for themselves (even if they only serve one term, they still get a "retirement" check) and reduce my benefits after I have served 20 years in the defense of this nation and Her policies that they heped to create.

I do think most people have no idea what is available to our military people. There are many programs to help them. Those that are disabled can do very well if they also put out some effort. Remember that these people were not forced to join the military service. They volunteered to be there. I do have a great respect for most of them. Most do their job and do it very well. Like any group of peoples there always will be some that will create havoc for the others. The ones that create trouble are the ones that get the spot light and makes it look bad for them all. Our service men and women are for the most part well educated and understand what they are there for.

I'm a combat veteran (Iraq war) and I've been to the V.A. Hospital on several occasions. In terms of medical care, the staff took very good care of me. I mean, I wasn't treated with royalty or anything like that, but they did their job in treating me. :) Some of the older guys like the Vietnam Vets, I think those guys deserve more, a lot more!

In terms of respect and deference, NO! They deserve above and beyond programs and entitlements. They deserve our thanks and admiration for doing a lousy, unpopluar job on behalf of those who don't even recognize the need.
The average American does not have a clue, and therefore has no right to speak poorly of or trivialize the efforts and sacrifices of a combat veteran.
I am a vet who did not see any combat, and I stand in awe of every man & woman who did, no matter how small their participation.

The Romans used to give their veterans a farm and a wife for their retirement.

In our country veterans get VA medical care, Educational reimbursements, and Veterans preference in Government jobs.

Personally, I think we could offer them more. A country should take care of it's Veterans in gratitude for their service.

I think anyone who serves should get more than they currently do. You read about servicemen (and women) who are having difficulty with previously held positions and lack of health care benefits once they return. Or in the case of a severly wounded individual, lack of proper health care. It is a shame that in a country as wealthy as the US we do not take care of those individuals who choose to serve. In addition, I do not feel the Vietnam Vets were treated appropriately upon their return. They were drafted into that war and for many, I am certain they would not have gone to Vietnam if not mandated.

I do not know what you think they deserve but they have my respect and appreciation. In most cases they did not volunteer to be there.
I think most go with the idea that they are going to try to help Iraq.
If you have issues with them being there, the person you should be upset is George dubbaya not the people who were sent there,
In fact they don't get what they deserve more.
They deserve better treatment.

I don't. Once they're out of service, they're screwed over. No benefits whatsoever. A little money maybe, and sometimes disability benefits, but otherwise they get nothing to say they've served the country.
