I think that even though it is a sad/emotional film, you could still enjoy the experiance of watching the film. I know I enjoy a good cry even when it is over somthing sad. I suppose the usher could say 'I hope the film is to your liking'

I beg to differ. The usher could be saying "I hope you enjoy the film" But what them mean, or what I hope they mean is, "I hope you enjoy this sad tale and that it touches your heart." The producers probably went through a lot of trouble to make that movie as realistic as they could. People should appreciate that, no matter how sad or horrific the movie may be.

We always equate (enjoy) with happy events and that is normal, but maybe enjoying something could mean or should mean enjoying the understanding of it. Taking something from the movie that made us more knowledgeable about 911 etc.

Nothing wrong with saying that....Enjoying the film doesn't have to mean that you come out laughing...it means they hope you get something out of it. I think it is completely appropriate.

Not if they are saying it routinely to everbody. it's like saying have a nice day. It's false, they don't know you so they can't possibly mean it.
