I just keep straight and continue the punishment. I let him know that I don't appreciate it. It is hard not to laugh at times... he is so funny himself, but I don't. I don't punish him further, I just reiterate the fact that I am serious, and I am the one in charge, "laugh all you want, you are going to sit in that chair buddy!!"

In many children laughing when they are in trouble is a nervous reaction.

I know, it can ratchet me up a notch if my child giggles when I'm trying to get her to stop doing something wrong or talk about inappropriate behavior. I take a deep breath and try to remember that she's really scared of displeasing me and the laughter is the nervous reaction to her anxiety - she's not laughing at me!!

She's three now, so I can stop and tell her, "Let's take a break." We'll both calm down then we can talk about it.

I hope that helps!

I took a parenting class or 2 always count to 10 before taking any action. Then find the thing they most like to do and remove them from it. That will get their attention real quick. Some people prefer spanking but if they don't take that 10 seconds and cool down it could end up in you being caught up with the courts.

Tell him it is NOT FUNNY at all and he shouldn't be laughing. He's made a huge mistake for his bad behavior so tell him in a low, stern and authorative voice that he should not be laughing AT ALL.

Just say that you don't think it is funny and put them in timeout. If you are out someplace and they aren't behaving say something like,"OK i am going now walk two steps away and your child is sure to follow." ( My mom used that with my brother and me and I now use it with my kids. It works)
