An interesting question since half of what we taste is what we smell. The two go together like liver and onions. This is why food does not taste as good when your nose is stuffed up. I can't think of a single thing I would eat that smells bad. The food has to appeal to both senses. There is a fruit from Thailand that has an odor that has been compared to a combination of sweetened garlic and pig manure. It is the durian. It is a large greenish shelled fruit studded with sharp spikes. It has been known to kill people when it has dropped on their heads. It looks like a medevil weapon. The smell is so strong it can be smelled through a closed car trunk. It has an odor that can best be described as overpowering, yet there are people who love to eat the yellowish slug-like pods inside it. This is trully a food that smells really bad, and yet tastes good to some people. Go figure.I first read about this some years ago in a National Geographic magazine. In the article it said that sometimes when people cut into this fruit in a confined space(like a train or airplane) people would look around and give each other dirty looks, thinking someone had just passed an horrific amount of gas. The perfect thing to mail to someone that you just can't stand. If they don't stab themselves handling it, they'll gag when they open it up.

This fruit called the Durian. Can be found in certain parts of Asia. This fruit stinks like garbage and it smells really really bad. I don't eat fruits myself but everyone who eats the Durian says they love it and says it tastes really good. GROSS.
