I have no idea, and I don't even think that tattoos are "cool". Most of those I get to see are silly and nothing but a nuisance. There were ancient people, mostly of the Celtic nations, who used a lot of tattoos, and the Maori of New Zealand have a similar tradition. But in modern times I can see neither a use nor an attraction for tattoos.

I think the biggest majority of people get them to express themselves. They feel they cannot do it any other way. And I have always heard, once you get one tatoo, you are addicted and want to get more.

Usually tatoos indicated that the person is criminal.

Although I don't have any, I see them as an artistic expression, like clothes,hair styles, etc.
