I think that you mean the ten Commandments, not the Sermon on the Mount. If you try and live by the Commandments you will lead a better life. No matter what religion a person is, it is a good idea to have faith. If you don't have faith, then you are like a cork in the ocean. Going nowhere. It is all about establishing goals and following them through.

you don't have to follow everything that is in the Bible. it is good for you to follow it but you don't have to you just have to believe what the apostle's creed. witch is I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic Church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. AMEN.

I haven't met many true Christians.
Very few have really accepted Christ and not a one is repentant for their sins of hatred and bigotry - they won't admit to their continued hatred of gay people for example to even BE a sin, and moan about how being gay is a sin.
But didn't Jesus say 'let you who are without sin cast the first stone?'
And doesn't the Bible say that we are not meant to judge because God is our judge?
I can't stand the hypocracy of it all.

because they scour the bible for snippets of verses to quote to ease their guilty conscience, rather than truly live as Jesus taught, I don't think many of the true teachings of Jesus even made it into a bound book
