I rinse and dry the ham - take 'sea salt' and rub it onto the ham. Make sure you give it a good coat to cover all of it. Wrap the ham in a good quality 'cheese cloth' - cure for 60 to 90 days - or longer - even 6 month according to a good friend who does this. To add a flavor to the ham - mix the salt with brown sugar - it gives it a great taste. When cured, be sure to soak the ham in water - changing the water several times to eliminate the salt. You can cut it and freeze it. Many stores sell salt cured hams - not sure I have seem them pre-cooked. I'll find out and post an answer for you.

I have never heard it called salt cured but I sure do know things about Country Hams. You are better off getting a good ham in Kentucky or Tennessee. If you are in the south you are going to be able to find a butcher or grocery that will prepare one for you and slice it to your liking. It takes patience and plenty of time to cure a good Country ham.

curing meat is a long process requiring specialized procedures, best not to try to do this yourself
