The Bible say's MATTHEW 5;34 But I tell you do not swear at all; either by heaven, for it is God's throne;35 or by Earth, for it is His footstool,or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King.36;And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black.37;Simply let your "yes" be "yes",and your "no", "no";anythig beyond this comes from the evil one.

No! The Bible is right!
I seen these verses too; so I asked the attorney about it!
The attorney told me several ways they can do it!
Attorneys's can help you in this situation by using promise or other words to replace the swearing part so you won't sin.

In trying to make a point, you come off as a bible thumper and a bit of a nutcase....you may want to back off a bit with your "proof".
Your "question" is clear...your explanation is verbal diarrhoea and offers no value to your question. I read your question and I responded - I think you missed an opportunity to ask a valid question, which is why I chose your question to read - I was going to respond as a non-christian I would say no, we should not be asked to swear on the bible, no more than I would swear on a roll of paper towel...it means nothing to me. Your assault via answering my question tells me you are a holy roller and it's difficult for you to accept that someone does not believe what you believe. The references you make mean nothing to me, I haven't read the bible, if you want only christians to answer your questions why don't state that in your opening line. If you would like only those who agree with you to respond, I'm sure there's a christian website you can use for your soapbox performances...if it's too hot in the kitchen then perhaps it's time for you to leave.

Where I live, they dont use the bible to swear anyone in. Maybe they still do in the south but I dont know. All they say here is "do you promise to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth". The witness does not even have to raise his right hand.

That is a good point. And what about us atheists who have testimony to give? Up until fairly recently, atheists were forbidden to testify in court! Talk about religious discrimination!
I think they should make you swear on your freedom. This would not change the legal system because perjury is already against the law.

I personally would not but I would explain my reasons to the judge and courtroom with respect and I would also get my lawyer to look for laws that give me the right to exercise my religious freedom if there's any. If not well I pray from now that day never comes.

This shows you the hypocrisy of our so-called "Christian" society. They don't even respect (and often they don't even know) what the Bible says.
I would never swear on a Bible, court room or elsewhere.

No, I completely disagree.
I rather bring the President than God for my witness.
