I know this question is probably worded poorly but I dont know how else to say it. Most days I feel so tired when I drive. I will feel fine before but when I'm in the car I get sleepy. Its becoming more and more frequent and it makes me nervous. i havent had any complications I just notice I get tired when i drive. Its not at any certain time, sometimes it before or after work other times its just driving home from the store. I tried shutting off everything and just concentrating, I tried turning up my music, some days nothing helps. I'm not scared i'm gonna fall asleep but I'm worried I'm not paying as much attention to the road as I should. Anyone else heard of this or feel this way??

Um, there is nothing wrong with my car... I just get relaxed and feel exhausted when I drive... is this common? Its usually only on short trips too..my commute is only about 15 min. each way.

I get the same way, when I'm tired and I drive sometimes I'll reach a certain point and won't remember the last mile to that point. It helps if you get enough sleep at night, if I get less than 7 hours of sleep a night I get that way sure thing, or if I've been up for too long too. Caffiene drinks and ciggarettes don't work, neither does turning up the music or opening the windows or crankin' up the a/c. My only advice is get enough sleep before any long drives or trips, otherwise I always make it no problem for short trips to work or the store, you should be fine too.

True...as others have said, it can become hypnotic.

Where do you live? Do you need to say, drive long distances for even routine tasks? By long distances, by the way, I mean, say, 30km or so to just go to the shop. Monotony can be a problem too - is it on routes you drive all the time?

I've had this problem before...I found it was seemingly due to a boring, long hypnotic drive - no traffic and a road I know really well and travel on quite a lot...you become complacent and bored...especially if there seems to be nothing to be alert to - say, a quiet road.

Poor ambient light or night can make it worse - not due to tiredness but due to the fact too that at night, your lights only really illuminate the road - so you don't even have any "real" scenery on longer trips and have also as a result, less perception of current location - which I've found can lead to hypnotic states of just "travelling"...

I figured since you have an open question just to say thanks for the best answer! All of a sudden like 2 minutes ago this thing popped up that said I was chosen as best answer. I love it when that happens. It makes me want to shout. One time when I did though, I tripped over my pant leg and fell with my laptop in my arms. Me and the laptop are fine. I did nothing but laugh! I know this answer doesn't help, but thanks!

It is very common, in a way the road becomes hypnotic, add that to the comfort in your seat, it could be a dangerous situation.

Two things. Driving is boring, so we want to fall asleep and driving is exhausting too.

You might have Sleep Apnea. Go to your doctor and get checked out.
