Or do circumstances change randomly?

I see good ineffectual people who pray and pray and things do not improve and there are achievers who do not pray at all.

Good fortune appears random and not related to a higher power. If anything it seems more related to a person's decisions and timing.

Praying seems more to keep a person calm - similar to a stress reducer like meditation.

And so, is it God at work or is it Chance?

Personally, I believe the answer is in the method of prayer. I do not use a prayer of supplication, but rather, prayers of thanksgiving. I believe that, before I have even asked, that God has answered my prayer and I thank God in advance for answering my prayer.

"Eg: Thank you God for the wonderful day that I am having. I send love, the light of holy spirit and blessings to all those I care about and all those I will have contact with this day."

Yes, some days are better than others, but inevitably I always have a good day.

I also believe that each person is a powerful creator and that we create our own reality and bring our own experiences unto ourselves with the power of our thoughts, beliefs, words and actions, as a result of the universal law of attraction. In other words, what you put in, you get back.

He really does answer prayers. He just does not always give you the answer you are hoping for. Praying is a calming experience.
Everything happens for a reason. Life on earth is a classroom for us to learn things each of us need. We are with people because of the things we can learn from them or them from us. When we have difficult times, it's never punishment for our sins which we commit without always realizing it. There is no such thing as coincidence. Everything happens as it should, even if it takes longer than expected. Since we all have free will/free choice, we make decisions and no matter how things turn out, they are learning experiences. Have faith that you are blessed and even trials are blessings because of the lessons learned. We are all here for a purpose even if we don't know what that is at this time. Make the most of the gift of life God has given. Light and Learning to you.

Prayer is a tool that helps a person focus on an idea or thing.

It is not very different from a spell or incantation, although most Christians will yell and scream that I am lying.

We all have the ability to reach out beyond ourselves and make things happen if we believe strong enough.

Once I learned this principle, I have never had a sincere prayer not answered.

Every time that I believed that a prayer would be answered, it was.

But I don't waste time with prayers for anything that i can accomplish myself. (money, cars etc)

I understand it this way .
The basics are that God is the word, and the biggest thing God blesses us with is an open healthy mind .
A simple example ; a mother tells a child, don't play with the dog when he is eating, he might bite you.Now the child must listen to those words.
Would that mother be wise to pray that the child does not get bitten if it does not listen , and then leave the child to play with the dog ? ..or would she do her best to protect the child, and pray and believe the child will be protected when she is not around ?God is only around when we allow him in and listen, and still we will have ups and downs , that is our test.
We make them more by not adhering to the rules.
We can take good chances, and let the bad chances pass.
It takes faith to believe in things unseen, like God.
The ultimate goal is the protection of our souls.

Know about How God does things.
God’s Wisdom, Love and Power
People may wonder why, if God exists, He doesn’t wave a magic wand and fix things, making or at least influencing everyone so that they do exactly what they ‘should’ do. But God never takes away anyone’s freedom of choice. God’s wisdom is to recognize and respect each soul’s individual identity, freedom and inherent goodness. God shares knowledge – a profound understanding of the dualities and dilemmas of love and hatred, happiness and sorrow, victory and defeat, etc. – but He does not make our choices for us. The soul is free to choose ‘to be or not to be’, ‘to love or not to love’. God’s love strengthens the soul’s will to free itself from the distresses caused by vices such as selfish desire, anger, fear, ego and attachment. God’s power helps the soul to recognize its highest potential and to aim for perfection by practising the art of simple living and high thinking. Such practice by a significant number of souls eventually brings about positive change in the whole of humanity.
When you learn to tune your mind in meditation to the mind of God, then whatever the situation, you always have a source of help and strength to draw upon – an infinite reservoir of power and virtues that is only a thought away

Pure chance.

No matter how hard a amputee prays, his amputated limb will never grow back.

Take any disaster, and the survivors will thank god for their survival. However, god didn't save those who died. Most likely many who are dying are going to pray, so why doesn't god answer all prayers?

He doesn't exist or he doesn't answer prayers.

well first good fortune is never random or not related to God, that good fortune is calls a blessing. and just becuase some one prays doesnt mean they will get it. God may be saying "that isnt best for you" or simply 'not right now, now isnt the time". He always has something in store for me when what I pray for I dont get so I trust Him completly becuase He has never let me down.

Your question seems like you've already got your mind made up.
Last night I was praying for a woman's daughter who was not there with us. I began saying some things I 'saw' while praying, & the Mother began crying. She told me what I said about her daughter was accurate. I'd never met her daughter. So, G-d was definitely present in that meeting with us last night. He does answer prayers, but in His time.
If more people, including myself, prayed in faith, we'd see more answered prayers.

hmm...interesting Q.well,i can't be entirely sure but this very wierd thing happened yesterday.i have this friend online, who's a guy & he was telling me all about how he had hurt this girl,he hadn't been able to say sorry to her before she had left.this happened about 6 or 7 years ago & he had tried in vain to search for her without any luck(he had given up his hopes of meeting her).it was really a very heart-warming story & that night i prayed(i mean i seriously prayed a lot) that somehow he would get to meet her & tell her that he was sorry(that was abt 2 weeks ago)& yesterday he told me that he met that girl & she actually came & talked to him.(he had got the chance to apologise too).now....is it just me or is that wierd.prayers we say for others have more chance of working out than when we pray for ourselves.at least, that's what i think.anyway, cheers!
