I have recently been invited to attend a Muslim Wedding reception, and being of christian descent have little if any idea of the formalities and procedures.

I know male and female sit separately, but that is it.

Is there any expected dress code, headwear, shoes off etc?

What kind of gifts would be acceptable?

Can someone please enlighten me?

I think it would be better in this case if you asked who invited you, as the other answerers pointed out, this may really change from one place to the next (although it shouldn´t really)
A few things, if you are a Christian, you are not bound to wear a veil (or headcover), this is only for Muslim women. HOWEVER, if you are going to a Mosque, then by all means wear something to cover your head and your chest fully, and of course do not dress provocative (short dress, etc)... if the celebration is not held in a Mosque then it really depends on the family. Some Muslims nowadays are really open about their religion, so in this case it would be ridiculous if you show up all in black from head to toe with a burqa!!
But also, the opposite would be true, so you are better off asking. The wife or whomever invited you would not feel your question as being a bad thing, on the contrary, they would appreciate it as a sign of respect.

Regarding the gift, you can give them anything you would normally give to another couple who´s getting married!

Have fun... and don´t drink too much (just joking lol)

Cover up your body as much as possible with nice pretty clothes. I think you are not meant to wear shoes inside a Mosque - so wear slip-on shoes. As for headwear it would be best to have a headscarf (or hat if you are a man) in your bag in case you are meant to wear on (this varies between different kinds of Muslims - there are several sects - like how Catholics and Mormons are both kinds of Christians).
As for a gift give them something nice and not too flashy - like a tea pot or an embroidered table cloth.
The service will be in Arabic so you should probably ask about the details of what happens - the Imam (he's like a priest) at your local Mosque will help you with this.

Good luck and have fun!

Well , not all the weddings are done in the same way ,
maybe men and women would be separated and maybe not ,
just go formally with a suit and nice shoes , no problem with this at all , it's like going to a conference or so ..
many kinds of gifts would be acceptable , just of course don't give them Alcohol or pig meat , it's forbidden in Islam, see what's their economic condition , would they need something for their home maybe ? a kind of a kitchen machine ? or if u don't know at all , chocolate wouldn't be bad , or a small piece of jewelery..

Hope i have helped.

You have to specify in which country country, and where the reception will be held (a hall, a mosque, a house), also whether you're a male or a female. It all differs from country to another.

Very simple, just go with a smile on your face.
you can give your gift at the reception, or you could give it later when you visit them at their house.
If you don't give any gift, it will be OK.
No dress code of any kind.
