1 ) It is easy to roll and move from place as it is too heavy to lift.

2 ) The main reason is that it wont enter the man hole. If it is aquare it will enter the man hole easily.

A round lid will not be able to fall in the hole, however you try.

But a square/rectangle will be able to fall in if it is put sideways.

Since the hole is round, it would logically follow that the lid would be as well, don't you think?

its bcoz the manhole is round.. naturally the lid covering it is same.. u would'nt wanna cover a round hole with a square lid? would u?

It's the only shape that prevents the top from falling in. It only takes a few seconds to realize that, so I haven't spent time thinking about it since I was about 6 years old.

Maybe if they were square or rectangled,the edges (4 corners) would probably produce more flat tires.

many advantages.. u can easily roll the cover like a wheel as it is made up of heavy iron and difficult to carry...
u can easily fall in tht hole if its round..
