Some believe that because man has the highest level of intelligence amongst all earthly beings and IS afraid of death he created the concept of an afterlife.

Then he invented the concept of a God to control man's disposition in life and in death.

Next man developed organized religion to add rituals and rules to the concept. Similar to any other organization of rules that prolongs man's longevity ex: law enforcement, ethics or when and what to eat.

To summarize: Man is afraid of death, as a result man used his intelligence to created an abstract being that allows man to live happily ever after - even after death.

I have great doubts about the existence of God. It is even more difficult having been raised Christian with members of my family devout

I'm with weemaryanne on this one.
Your take on religion is pretty much the same as mine - and many others. And you are not alone in being the only agnostic in a religious family.
I think it's healthy to question the world around you and not take everything at face value. If you find faith in your god again, you won't have lost anything by examining your faith.
If you decide god doesn't exist, you won't be a worse person. You'll be accepting the world as it realyy is. And that is really quite liberating.
Good luck with your journey.

It is a matter of semantics. All of the matter in the Universe is nothing less than tiny bits of information. When all of that matter was clumped in to a tiny little space, as in just before the Big Bang, that tiny little glob of all the information (matter) in the Universe would have been the most intelligent (omniscient) being; God, Creator.

Nature never wastes anything. Everything is recycled. Even the energy (spirit) in your body after the body stops functioning.

Creation is an ongoing process but, some call it evolution.

The only thing man created was the sories about Creator. That is what helps us sleep better at night. Creator has always been there.

Years ago, I too had serious doubts about the existence of God. I wondered, "If there is a God, what in the world is he doing? What is he thinking? This world is a mess." I think when one has doubts about his existence, one is in a perfectly normal and reasonable frame of mind. A relative of mine once said she wouldn't believe in God unless he came down to her kitchen, sat on the table and waved. I thought, how presumptuous and arrogant. We would not expect a personal visit from an earthly king just to prove he existed and ruled a country. How much less so should we expect a personal visit from the Most High God!

I did some serious research and study. I not only learned that he does exist, I learned what he is doing and what he is thinking. I was surprised and amazed, and pleasantly so. My questions weren't just answered, they were satisfied.

So, have doubts. But know this: those doubts can be removed.

Yes, I think you have it.

Religion has traceable origins in history that pre-date christianity and even judaism.

There is a definite trend, of my god is better than your god going on in history.

We have now developed enough knowledge that we can throw away our outdated concepts of the universe. We no longer have to cling to ancient traditions and out-of-date books. We are free to pursue our individuality and the true nature of the universe. We aren't subservient, we are simply us, and all is truly all part of the same thing. There is no need for a creator, there is no need to fear death. Without death, you would not be alive, you great great great great...... great great..... great, etc, grandparents would be living where you are now instead. Old kings would never have given up their throwns, and nothing would change. Death is life, and vice versa.

Returning to the source from where we all came is everyone's goal. If this is just allow my molecules to return back into the universe to one day become something else, then so be it, who am i to struggle against what is.

There is no 'god', no distinct being that is like a father to us, and will carry our souls on for eternity, (or send it to burn in a fiery pit) This is all wishful thinking.

All things come to an end, even the gods themselves. We are seeing that in our generations now.

The way of life in the Bible is beyond human intelligence & wisdom so I don't think it is invented by mere man. I struggled with the idea of Gods existence too when things didn't go my way...yes the Bible is not mans way, it is Gods way revealed. I use to be afraid of dying but now I know who'll hold my future so no fear in death. I can never doubt God after I have experienced His presence over my life, and not to be ignorant of others testimony too. If you have the right relationship with God, you don't need to be afraid of what will lie ahead. You'll know it in your heart that you'll not perish because the Holy Spirit will testify to you that you are a child of God, that is, after you believe and received Jesus in your heart. That is all it has to take but many people find it hard to believe that because they choose to.

It only takes one to surrender to God and believe.
Perfect love cast away all fears.

No. Maybe this will help you understand.

DEATH AND HELL

Psa.23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the SHADOW of death, I will fear no evil: for
Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me.

Flesh death of the body is a SHADOW of death, a silhouette or likeness of the second death.

Heb.9:27 And as it is appointed unto men ONCE to die, but after this the judgment:

If you are already dead why then after this the judgment?

Matt.10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather
fear Him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Fear (revere) God Who can destroy both soul and spiritual body, that is second death.

I Cor.15:44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and
there is a spiritual body.

There is a flesh body and a spiritual body.

II Cor.5:6 Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: II Cor.5:7 (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) II Cor.5:8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.

Absent from the flesh body, present with the Lord.

Ecc.12:6 Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern. Ecc.12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God Who gave it.

The spiritual body and soul return to God.

I Cor.15:54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall
have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is
swallowed up in victory.

The second death is what Christ paid the price for. Until the mortal puts on immortality he is still considered dead or liable to die the second death.

Ezek.18:4 Behold, all souls are Mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is Mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.

All souls are God’s. The verdict for sin is the second death.

Heb.2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, He also Himself likewise took part of the same; that through death He might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

God through flesh death paid the price for the second death. Satan already sentenced to the second death has been defeated. Satan can’t say we deserve the same verdict.

Rev.2:11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that
overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.

Those who overcome Satan become immortal, the first resurrection.

Rev.20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. Rev 20:5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection.

The rest of the dead, that is mortal souls, missed the first resurrection, that is immortality, until the thousand years are finished.

Rev 20:6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.

A thousand years, a time of teaching by those who had part in the first resurrection.

Rev.20:11 And I saw a great white throne, and Him that sat on it, from Whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. Rev.20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

The dead, that is mortal souls.

Rev.20:13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. Rev.20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

Don’t read over that. Death, that is Satan, and hell, that is separation from God, were cast into the lake fire, the second death.

Rev.20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

The second death.

mini- just look around you ....look at yourself-- your very existance is a statistical impossibility...i use to struggle with it all--it seems overwhelming... especially God.. how can we comprehend a omnipotent being when our own existance is so finite.. personally, i dont fear death..my culture (native american) sees it as just a part of life... i proclaim to you with everything in me that God is real...and he is a God that loves what He has created..i dont believe in heaven (as far as ppl ending up there)..heaven is His domain.. but I will tell you a secret about the so called afterlife... what God has in store for us is so much better than "going to heaven"..have u ever wondered if there was a heaven what you would do? i mean infinity is a long time..
when u look up at the sky at night and see all those billions x billions of stars --and you try to comprehend how big the universe really is.. think about this.. what the Father gave to the Son (everything) the Son will give to those who love him.. imagine being given the gift of self sustaining life (immortality) and power to create.. and God tells you, Mini..this planet is yours, as you can see its kinda lifeless right now.. why dont you fix it??
and you could.. how long will it take to fix up and create the universe?? " the universe is in trevail, until the coming of the sons of man" ..and dont forget mans wisdom.. is follishness to God..be confident He is there and with Him there is no fear of death or anything else.. faith takes a lifetime-- its there because you are struggling--there would be no struggle if you didnt have any

Have you read "Only love is real" by Dr. Brian Weiss of the California Hypnosis Institute. I have myself experienced Past life regression through hypnotherapy. U will certainly start beleiving in after life . As for God, He is simply there. I have seen Him in the eyes of those I love, not once, but many a times.
