hey pervey pirate, i think he did because he didn't want all his followers thrown in jail and crucified. they needed to be free to expell the romans when the time came. how could simon the zelot fight the romans if he had been put in jail or crucified?
brother simon needed to be free, and the rest of the liberation movement too. the time came decades later and the liberation movement failed.
