God does not "make children with handicaps." As long as there is sin in the world, these things will happen. But . . . .
All things work for the good of those of love and follow the Lord.
John 9: 1-11 As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"
"Neither this man nor his parents sinned," said Jesus, "but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life. As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world."
Having said this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man's eyes. "Go," he told him, "wash in the Pool of Siloam" (this word means Sent). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing. His neighbors and those who had formerly seen him begging asked, "Isn't this the same man who used to sit and beg?" Some claimed that he was. Others said, "No, he only looks like him." But he himself insisted, "I am the man." How then were your eyes opened?" they demanded. 1He replied, "The man they call Jesus made some mud and put it on my eyes. He told me to go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed, and then I could see."
God does not create the difficulties or the disabilities, but He provides a way that we can overcome them and they become part of our testimony of hope to others.

This is a very complex question, so I will have to answer it in parts.
God created man in his image?
O.k. this is going to be a little deep answer. God created our spirit in his image then used the Earth to create our bodies. No our bodies are not in God's image, but our spirit is.
Why does God make children with handicaps?
People have blaimed God for many things including handicaps. The truth is he only created 2 bodies (Adam and Eve). He still creates spirits, but not our bodies. Throughout time we have done many things to our bodies and the Earth. These things are the cause of things like disabilities. Yes, even years of prescription pills have caused this. No there is nothing we can do about it right now, these things have been passed down and passed down and the atmosphere is not going to get any better.
Why does he leave them in pain?
God gave us free will. He can not do anything that goes against free will. Since we had the free will to do these things to our bodies and to the Earth he can not stop us from the reprocutions. It's like if you killed somebody God can not stop you from going to prison. The only thing he can do for you is give you advice.

U r right God loves every one of us unconditionally, but he is the creator does not mean that he sits and create all of us and decide what we should do and not to do..Gods wisdom and power are different than we know.
People may wonder why, if God exists, He doesn’t wave a magic wand and fix things, making or at least influencing everyone so that they do exactly what they ‘should’ do. But God never takes away anyone’s freedom of choice. God’s wisdom is to recognize and respect each soul’s individual identity, freedom and inherent goodness. God shares knowledge – a profound understanding of the dualities and dilemmas of love and hatred, happiness and sorrow, victory and defeat, etc. – but He does not make our choices for us. The soul is free to choose ‘to be or not to be’, ‘to love or not to love’. God’s love strengthens the soul’s will to free itself from the distresses caused by vices such as selfish desire, anger, fear, ego and attachment. God’s power helps the soul to recognize its highest potential and to aim for perfection by practising the art of simple living and high thinking. Such practice by a significant number of souls eventually brings about positive change in the whole of humanity.

God does not make anyone with a handicap, ever. As long
as we have sin to deal with, this will happen. But in the life
to come there will be no such thing.

A good question.
Try to see it this way. God is a spirit, and his image would also be spirit. He changes our inner man to look like him. Then the inner man would be his Son.(all souls are female to Him )
Nature will go it's way, and the inner man will live in our bodies, irrespective of colour or handicap, till the day the physical is gone.

Well his work is mysterious, but let me ask you something that help me to understand. Did you feel sorry for all the people that died in hurricane Katrinia? Did you say prayers for the people and family members? Did you wish them all to be ok?
I hope you are a person that did, and God want us to Praise and worship him right? Pray for one another, help one another, depend on one another when something like this happens Right?
Well for rape, that was hard for me, I had to learn over time to forgive the man that did that to me when I was 10, it took years and time but I have forgave him. I learned that people do make terrible mistakes, sometime out of lust, sickness, mental illness ect and some do know better, some don't, but my part was to forgive.
God made us to praise and worship him, and when we get lazy, or don't he get upset. We are children, and like our parents did have to teach us, God has to teach us. WE are children in Christ. He is our Father, when me make a mistake, he is their to help us, and he CAN even punish us for a mistake we did.
Remember someone that just started reading the bible and just starting out with God, is like going to First grade, you will slowly understand, the more you study the more you will learn and grow.
Remember God only gave us what he wanted us to know in the bible it for us to have faith in him, we are not on his level, we can never be even close as our Lord Jesus, so we will never know it all...

Each person is given a special individual challenge to deal with in life so that they overcome it and become a better person. Pain is not to be avoided. It is to be dealt with and felt. Such an experience will definitely make that person spiritually stronger.

this question have two perspectives ....
1. GOD somtimes wants to test his dear people by giving them some problems ....and he also guide them in passing his test ....
2. sometimes it is due to sins of parents ...e.g fetal alcoholic syndrome ..... alcohol is prohibited in ISLAM ..so when a parewnt do drink it .....he must get punishment...... so for the parent it is punishment .... but for the kid it is a test again .... so that would he be ( the child ) pateint and tolerate it ..... or would he start nagging about it ... got it .....
it is quote of prophet muhammad (p.b.u.h) that " Children are flowers of Allah's garden " .. how cute ......

God created the truth of us, not the illusion of simple images (physicality). God does not create in physical terms, and knows "His" "Son" only as created.
In "human" terms, our inner self has chosen to experience in physical terms; this choice brings about varied situations, such as those you list.
God leaves no one in pain. God knows us as one Beloved Child...God has one Son. We are that Son, and we remain just as created. Physicality is a dream, a substitute we chose over the glory of being whole, perfect, complete, with "Him".
