The person asking is a male friend (not a significant other) and I just don't know how to tell him nicely that it's none of his business since he isn't my boyfriend, but without ruining the friendship with him. He's a good friend, I just don't think I need to be answering such questions.

Some one once asked me a very personal question in the company, in front of many colleagues.
I simply smiled and told him politely that I generally don't answer such personal questions.

nar id tell him flat out that its non of his business. hahaha! Or you could do it the polite way by saying look sorry but i dont really want to talk bout this. Quite often guys ask questions that are personal and not even realise that there over stepping the line, poor fella, just explain how you feel and y you dont want to talk bout it. If his understanding he will listen. Plus you said his a good mate so you will be ok.

Tell him 'sorry.. but I dont feel like talking about it'. If he's a good friend, he should understand.

PS: you might want to consider the possibility that he may be asking you things coz he is interested in you - as a girlfriend

You don't have to answer him,I would tell him point blank,it is none of his business! What kind of friend would ask that type of question anyways?

Is it possible that he would like more than a friendship with you? I think that is what's happening.I think it is very unusual to have a friendship with a man that does not include his desire for more. Unless he is Gay, I would at least CONSIDER the possibility.

lean towards him and say in a conspiratorial tone of voice 'can you keep a secret?'

when he says 'yes' (hopefully) you can reply

'GOOD so can I!!'

then swiftly move the conversation onto some topic that you are more comfortable with.
