God bless us, I love us in a lot of ways, so many. But, even Americans I talk to do not like our beer. And the paradox lies in the fact that we like it a lot. First we had mass-produced over-carbonated, alcohol enriched, cotton mouth giving, club soda piss water. Then micro-brews came along and gave us the polar opposite. Bitter, coffee, wine tasting crap. The brewers seem to think, "well, if a little sweet and bitter is good, then let's make it very very great by making it so strong that you do not want to drink it"!!

there are alot of great american beers on the market. anchor brewing, victory brewing, magic hat, and dog fish head to name a few. when it comes to craft beer you have to know what to look for because these breweries don't spend billions of dollars on marketing like bud, miller, and coors.

Today is my one answer day, and congrats your question or statement is the one I am going to respond to:
It is very simple, Americans can make good beer i.e.:
Sam Adams
Fat Tire
The problem is that Americans do not drink good beer, they are swayed by the advertising not the product. They drink brands because they think that the bikini clad women in the commercials will suddenly appear (which they do if you consume enough), or they will be in the tropics enjoying their beer with a lime stuffed through the neck (need a lime, you are drinking a lemon), they have no idea of the proper way to serve and drink beer because they drink to get drunk not to enjoy.
I will give you one big tip which most Americans will not follow but if you want to enjoy beer even the crap they portray as beer:
Budweiser, Miller Lite, Coors, etc. NEVER EVER DRINK BEER OUT OF A CAN OR BOTTLE!!!! Do you think that is a strange statement? Think about it, everyone complains beer makes them feel bloated and gives them gas, it sure does for it has natural carbonation in it and when you drink it straight from the can or bottle the carbonation goes into your stomach, pour it into a glass, give it a good head and the carbonation goes into the air and you taste the full flavor of the beer, of course you need "beer clean" glasses but that is another story.
Anyway try a good beer, pour it correctly and drink responsibly.

Try Henry Weinhard's Dark in tall bottles.
It is mainly in the Pacific Northwest, but you might find it in CA.
I agree with you. Our beer is over carbonated. I occassionally drink MGD, but I pop the top on a few a couple of hours ahead of time to let the carbonation out.

I'm not sure what beer your drinking, BUT There is good beer here in America. BUT I also think it just comes down to taste.
I am a bar-tender and the biggest seller I have is Budweiser. BUT I also have one guy who comes in daily. And the ONLY thing he drinks is Rolling Rock. Then you have people who only drink Amber beer. Others ONLY Draft. It all comes down to taste in what people like.

you're pretty much got it. the problem is excess. we like beer so much and are so caught up in liking it that we neglect little things like flavor. european beer is so often better because their goal is less to get hammered and more to enjoy a nice drink.
