Vespaio on S. Congress is amazing! It can get pricey and you often have to wait for a table, but the food makes it worth it.
Another place with great Italian food is Romeo's on Barton Springs. The food is great (and more affordable) and the atmosphere is nice and the decor is funky. This one is definitely one of my favorites!

Here are a couple to try.
Maggiano's is more upper scale than say an Olive Garden.
Another idea is Bucca di Beppo. Buca di Beppo is a great place to entertain a large group of people. Portions are family sized, and the atmosphere is also very family friendly.

In Austin, the best place to go, according to a pure Italian, is Andiamo. Watch out .. it's closed on Sunday.

Spaghetti Warehouse is good. We have one in San Antonio, but I do not know about Austin. You might also try Johnny Carino's really good also.
