Now this is something I didn't really know what to look for. Does the type of person, meaning anything about the person, weather it be physical, mental, personality, even religion (no offense meant) reflect the type of drug abused in a person that abuses drugs?

Personally ever since I became clean and started attending NA, of my own choice, I've been wondering about that. I am and always was a very depressed person my entire life, seems to be the case that I pefer stimulants WAY over sensitives, such as extacy, meth, weed, ect.

Just seems odd that I seem to be happier when I was high, rather than sober

The use of pleasure lead to addiction & a worthless personality. Well...
Pleasure isn't the same thing as happiness!
There are good pleasures & bad pleasures. This is why acts should be done for there own good, rather than for the pleasure which may result directly from them.

People who have psychological issues that stem from a traumatic or disappointing childhood are more prone to drug abuse, at a later stage in life, than people who grew up with a happy and positive childhood. Negative or inadequate parenting also plays a huge role in whether someone is more likely to turn to narcotics to alleviate the disorders that they experience in adult life due to their childhood. For example, someone who is really depressed about life will turn to hard drugs like coke, meth, or smack. Someone who has a few issues with the way they were brought up (but can still see the finer points of life) will stick to the not so harmful substances like weed or in some cases Ecstasy(even tho Ecstasy can damage the body more than weed, some people hardly notice the long-term effects). This also depends on the amount and the duration of the substance-abuse. In my case, I was drawn to weed because it altered my reality a bit, but now it's because it just puts me in a daze where I don't think about anything else, other than the daze I'm in. For a while I was attracted to this type of escape, but now I've come to realize that being sober and dealing with reality head-on is a lot better than trying to escape it through the use of narcotics. Everybody's different though.

there is no type of person who is more resistant or less likely to get involved with drugs. young and old moms are starting to do meth so they can do more housecleaning, and have more energy for their kids, grandma is addicted to her pain pills, anyone can become dependant on any addictive drug they try at any point in life. Look at Rush Limbaugh. and to classify extacy, meth and weed together is a big mistake. meth is a stimulant, weed is a depressant, and ex is a lot of things. but no, different people prefer different drugs mainly on which high they personally like best or what they got addicted to first. there are a few similarities in personalities based on why they started using the drug but I think most other similarities start after they used the drug, in that the drug in particular sort of molds people.

Yes, and if you are attending NA meetings you should know this. Every drug addict has something in their life they are trying to escape be it physical, mental, etc.. Therefore their drug of choice usually helps them escape from it for the time being. Keep going to meetings and check out the twelve steps.

Self medicating depends on the type of mental illness. Someone in a depressed mood abuses alcohol more that anything else. Don't' know why as it makes it worse. People with anxiety problems tend to abuse sedatives. Bi-polar tend to abuse speed derivatives when in a manic state as it increases their high. People who do drugs have some kind of problem they are trying to medicate. Life is better sober, trust me. Took me a long time, I used to abuse drugs myself and it almost led me to my death!
I haven't done drugs in years and in July I celebrate my one year sobriety date. Yay!

Hey man, I don't know anything about drugs... But I think you should have more confidence in yourself ;) If you feel sad you should think "I feel sad, but I don't want to! I'm going to think happy and be happy!" If you believe in that hard enough it really works. Also, when I feel sad I start reading some garfield comics. Good luck pal

I think lots of people use drugs to self midicate thier psychological issues instead of seeing a doctor about it.
