Alexander Fleming discoverd it, however, some people disagree with this as he discovered it by chance. Fl;eming was unable to develop it into a usable medicine thats when Howard Florey and Ernst Chain came in and continued the research on penicillin.
world war 2 also helped the production of penicillin as US gave $75 million to mass produce penicillin.

Sir Alexander Fleming at St Mary's Hospital, Paddington, London W2. There is a blue plaque on the wall on Praed Street next to the hospital entrance, to commemorate the discovery.

one night alexanda flemmings assistant forgot to put the lid on some petri dishes on an experement they were conduting
in the morning it was discovered that penicillin was formed in these dishes, so it was actually discovered by accident
