i did before and it was horrible for me. the guy was happy but i wasn't. he came on WAAAAYYYY too strong.

Of course, why not? There's nothing to loose! 'Worst' case, you just gain experience. Best case, you really meet the one for life.
The only thing is that you should not be hung up on the idea that 'It has to be this time'!.
If you just take it as an opportunity, it could be fun. And if your blind date is boring, find a good excuse why you have to leave early..
