While looking at my bosses new 9mm I noticed it doesn't have a safety! Is this gun counterfeit? I have never seen a gun without a safety before. The markings on the upper reads " SW9VE "
I inspected the firearm thoroughly and could not find a safety anywhere. Is this a new trend in semi-autos? Isn't it dangerous?

Some weapons are made without safties. Glock for example doesn't have an external safety. It shouldn't matter if you're following proper gun safety rules. As long as you keep your finger out of the triggerwell and have a proper holster that covers the trigger it shouldn't go off.

m37734 is referring to the clip release in his photo. The gun has a safety similar to the glocks. It cant fire unless you pull the trigger (I know, duh) which has a pivot point that makes it difficult for anything but a finger to set it off. As with all guns your finger is your safety. As for it being dangerous it isn't. I feel more comfortable knowing it isn't there than relying on something that might not work. When I was younger I almost shot my best friend with a shotgun that had the safety on. Lesson learned almost the hard way.

It probably has a safety and you just don't realize it. Not being familiar with the Sigma series I really couldn't tell you about it. Any gun is safe if you keep your finger off the trigger until your ready to shoot.

NO, its not dangerous..
Anyone familiar with firearm handling and safety knows you don't point the gun at anything you don't want to blow to hell, and you keep your finger away from the trigger until you're ready to shoot.

Also, you don't rely on that safety -- its mechanical, it can fail. You aren't supposed to rely on it -- thats what safe firearm handling is for.

The S&W Sigma like the Glock only has an external trigger safety, the rest are internal, and are released as the trigger is pulled.

Looks like it doesn't have one though technically cylinder guns don't have one either. However they are probably safer than a safety-less automatic

there HAS to be a safety, it couldn't be sold without it.
check on the left side right behind the trigger...it depresses in to unlock...then from the right side depresses in to lock...it slides back and forth...locks the trigger.
