There are 2 methods - Czech or French. The Czech is to soak a sugar lump in absinthe, set fire to it, and when the flame dies down, stir the melted sugar into your glass containing a shot of absinthe. Dont stir till the fire has gone out else you will burn all of your absinthe away!! Then pour over an equal measure of water to dilute and sip slowly!
The french version do without the fire - they hold the sugar in the spoon and pour water over the sugar so it dissolves into the glass.

First is that it should be diluted by water -- 6 to 8 parts water to one of absinthe. Absinthe has a high alcohol content, the water dilutes it to a reasonable amount for drinking.
But also you see the 'louche', the effect of the clear liquid turning a milky color when water is added.
Ideally, the water should be chilled, but you can shortcut and add ice cubes to the glass.
Optionally, to make the drink more palatable, many people like to sweeten it. The traditional way is to drip ice-cold water through an ice cube suspended above the glass of absinthe. But there is no really correct way -- nowadays people add Sprite or Coke or anything. Whatever you feel is right is

The french take it with water and like wines suck air in as you drink to get the flavour. Also it depend on what kind of absinth...?? commercial rocket fuel or some of the more traditional ones from a good wine merchants. A really good place to buy traditional i The soho wine merchants off Totenham court road in london its the next road down towards tcr station from Goodge street

Do you mean where you put a shot in a glass stir in a teaspoon of sugar and light the mix. Blow out the flame and down in one? It's messy but warms you up on a cold day

Sticking to only two shots in one night to start with!
That stuff is lethal!
I have tried it and here in England the legal limit in bars is only two shots in an evening as it can cause hallucinogenic effects.
