The Ten Commandments were 10 laws written on stone by God personally and given to Moses. These laws concerned man's relationship with God and also with each other.

Perhaps you are referring to the New Testament passage Mark 12:13-17 13 Paying Taxes to Caesar

They sent some Pharisees and followers of Herod to bait him, hoping to catch him saying something incriminating. 14 They came up and said, "Teacher, we know you have integrity, that you are indifferent to public opinion, don't pander to your students, and teach the way of God accurately. Tell us: Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not?"

15 He knew it was a trick question, and said, "Why are you playing these games with me? Bring me a coin and let me look at it." 16 They handed him one.

"This engraving — who does it look like? And whose name is on it?"

"Caesar," they said.

17 Jesus said, "Give Caesar what is his, and give God what is his."

This passage indicates that it is correct to pay taxes if you are a citizen of a country (or state) and the governemt levies taxes of all people.

The Ten Commandments should have nothing to do with a Democratic Government.

Unfortunately there are people who feel that their religion is best for everyone and should be made the law of the land....

The United States is not a democracy.

It is a constitutional democratic republic. Checks and balances, the Constitution, people voting, and representative elected officials.

The Ten Commandments were given to a people who had God as the leader of their nation and cannot help us much with your question.

However the second of the two Great Commandments of Jesus Christ can help. If we "love our neighbors as ourselves" then we would not treat people as they are treated in Guantanamo.

Jesus also said to "give to Cesar what is Cesar's" instructing us to pay lawful taxes.

We need to lawfully change the conduct of the government of the United States of America through our votes, speaking the truth to other citizens, and, if you feel strongly enough, non-violent demonstration.

With love in Christ.

Is supporting the illegal shackling and detainment of a US soldier that hasn't even been charged or formally accused of any wrongdoing any less worse than Guantanamo?
