People need to realize that it's a lot more than just the act of union we want. In a single ceremony, a man and a woman can easily attain power of attorney, etc. when it is an incredibly long and involved process for a gay couple to achieve the same thing.
I see more men and women ruining the "sanctity" of marriage everyday than any gay couple ever would. Remember that America is a country with over a 50% divorce rate. The hypocrisy makes me sick.

In a way I think that no marriage as we know it would be good. We can make all the vows in the world and it can mean nothing. Half our marriages end in divorce. I think when we decide we want to be with someone in a committed relationship then we should think very carefully before moving in together. In theory marriage is fine but we often think ...now...if it doesn't work I can leave....which means we shouldn't be taking that step! But even civil unions...which are legal where I live- for those who don't want a marriage ceremony in a church, or are in a committed gay relationship. A ceremony that makes things legal. But even that can fall apart.
I'm glad I'm still married after 29 years cos divorce causes so much sadness and pain. Some people can still be friends but that is rare. Maybe we need a radical change in our thinking but no marriage commitment or ceremony won't change the statistics.
What is the answer? A change of heart?

You CRAZY CAT. Forget about marriage and think about what gay men do. I can only do it for a second think about it that is. Because it is so disgusting. You realilistically can not be gay and happy period. The two words dont belong in the same sentence. I found that gay people are very frendly, so are strait people, then some are angry. How can you be gay and ok with it. It is wrong that is an exit. Oh and they say they are born that way. WRONG! Your not born gay cause it is a choice people choose to be gay so why should I care that they want something called gay rights. There is no such thing as gay rights. When you choose to put your pecker up an exit a black poopy one, you just choosed to be gay. Thats your problem not mine. Stop with your gay this and gay that and be strait then you can have rights like everyone else. Good luck gay birds!!! Oh yea and people allways say its the religous people who are aganst gays let them get married it does not effect me its not hurting me bla bla bla bla bla. The real reason why gay marriage is not widely accepted is because of money money thats right money. I have exercised the demons this house is clear!!!!

I can understand your reasoning. But the people taht are religious want to keep mariage because of "Holy Matrimony" Besides, all, if not most religions believe this: NO SEX UNTIL YOUR MARRIED DUMBASS!
As you can see, the people whoa re close in their religions would die virgins, and if this happened, the population would go down, thus making America a declining Country, and eventually Americans would die out so the rest of the world would be happy....Hey it is a good idea! Haha.
But besides that, marriage is considered sacred, and I do think that the Gay's should have a right to marriage. We all want intimacy, we all want love, and we all want fatter wallets, so why not have marriage? When you sign that certificate, then by law, you're stuck together. Unless of course you divorce, but alot of people try to avoid that because of how expensive it is.
I see it alot like this. I've talked to older couples, and they said that one of the only reasons they were able to get along so well is because they had one thing that cures everything. Make-up sex. When couples stop this cycle, things get really bad. But if it gets to teh point of divorce, they should do EXTREEM make-up sex, and then we dont have to worry about divorce, then people will be so ******* orgasm high that they wont even NOTICE the gay's getting married.
So problem in america solved. Couples start having extreem make-up sex and we can legalize gay marriage thus making EVERYBODY HAPPY! And orgasm high too ^^;;
Sorry for just going on, but I found this kinda funny.....XD

I happen to disagree, for I am married and have been married for 8 years, and I am very happy, more happier now than I was single. I think marriage is a great thing, and though my opinion of marriage is just that my opinion, life is about meeting someone that makes you happy and makes your life complete, it would be sad if people had to go through life alone, and die alone and had no one to fall in love with. And, life for me has been much more greater and much more fun that it will ever be, since I married 8 years ago, and it's still strong and we are both still very happy with one another. Marriage is sacred it's a binding commitment for two people who want to share what they have found in another person for the rest of their lives.

Marriage is a very special kind of relationship. A lot of married people would not be happy. Some people are made for marriage, some aren't. Unfortunately the people that are not suited to marriage are the ones dictating the marriage laws.

Well marriage is used as a legal contract between two people. It is used for things like taxes and medical decisions.
If you couldn't "marry" someone then you would have to make individual contracts for filling taxes and what to do if you go into a coma and what happens to yous stuff when you checkout.
If homosexuals want to simplify these things, then why cant they?
It isn't effecting me one way or the other, so i'm for it.

Sounds good to me. I sure don't like the institution of marriage. I tried it once and that was enough for me. I just can't even fathom living with the same person most of my life. It looks like there are a lot that feel the same by the number of divorces.

Yah, that sounds like a good idea to me. Equality works. Too bad so many people are offended by the concept that they aren't really better than other people.
