Sounds like a stupid question, but with such suprising evidance that we have that our country was founded on the belief (or influenced by) a religion...Why is it when someone commits a crime they cant get away with it if they say "God told me to do it".

Think about it for a second.

Yes the USA was founded by people that had strong religious beliefs. Thanks to a few the USA did not become a nation controlled by the church as many nations are. Church and State are supposed to be separate. Not always so though. Churches always think they know better than anyone else. The wise men that wrote the constitution understood that the church can not have control of a nation and make it operate successfully. They were in hopes that the religions would decrease and become in the background. Didn't quite happen that way though. So now you have civil law and religion in conflict. Better to go with civil law.

1) People are trying to remove God from our courts, so God is usually not invited as a witness.

2) Although law itself originates from God, we have strayed so far from it that bears little resemblance to the original set. We use it to serves ourselves now and not God. Even if God DID tell, say, Noah to build a huge boat, we'd find a way to make it illegal according to building codes, and God's testimony would be irrelevant.

3) We have elevated ourselves above God and set our laws higher than His. May God forgive us.

in any society there is lows control it and protect it from crimes and keep the rights of every individual, so God when create us create lows and order us to follow these lows making our life happy and smooth, so when a person commit a crime he must have his punishment and give the rights to whom it concern so we can have a peaceful society where no one is hurt or lose his rights, so when we say in'' GOD WE TRUST '' we mean that we depend on God in our daily life to help us and that not mean that we commit crimes and say God told us to do so cause he never order us to do evil.
