In Isaiah 7:14 the Bible gives a prophecy. It says, "Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel."

Uhm, am I missing something here?

I believe in life, free-thought, and physics. I believe in reality, and that through the scientific process hypotheses can be supported or rejected so we as a species may find answers in this world of questions. I don't intend to live my life based on myth and superstition

So how does someone's name have anything to do with myth and superstition?

Anyway, as others have pointed out, the name of Immanuel is more of a descriptor than a birth name. It's a lot like the man born as Sidartha came to be know as The Buddha or just buddha, meaning "enlightened one".

Just because you don't believe what someone else does, it doesn't make all your counter arguments right. I think it's being petty to pick apart every detail such as names and nicknames and hold it up as proving or disproving the existence of God or the nature of Jesus.

Myths are stories as are the testaments that give examples of good and bad moral philosophies in different societies and social conditions than those we live in. They are example for us to interpret as have those who have faith in their religious beliefs what ever they may be or have been over the past historically or in this times differing beliefs or societies. Science is based on the belief in many theories ,Their practical use versus the abuse of their advantages or disadvantages to individuals or different groups in different societies with different beliefs and faiths.
Like philosophical questions there is no answer only belief and faith in our own individual and collective conclusions. Alas The world is divided into many dissident groups so the debate is never ending as is the action and reaction both mentally and physically ad finatum
