First of all, Catholic priests are not "godfathers"; they are Fathers. Next, not all Christians are Catholic, meaning that not all Christians that you need to confess to a pastor to be forgiven. You should not make such generalizations about the Christian faith, especially if there are those that know more about it than you; and hey, I'm not even Christian!

I believe that asking god for forgiveness for sins relieves us of them and we can live a good life after.

Christians are saved by Grace through Faith In Jesus. God already knows everyones shortcomings, Ie helps us remember ours and gives us resolve to discontinue the practice or action.

I think that lesser sins will be forgiven by him :)
But more serious sins must be admitted, before death, i dont think there is a way to enter heaven without admiting those :s

Remember the bible says there is only 1 FATHER and that is our FATHER in heaven. Now please don't forget that Catholic faith goes.
