are you religious because it makes you happy?

for example, i see many people becoming religious because it shields them from the suffering, and makes them happy again.

so, they are suffering and feeling depressed, and then along comes religion and lifts them out of it.

just getting at what underlies the belief, and not saying that's a good or bad thing about religion, but these people prolly would.

Religion gives you identity, it gives you a sense of belonging, it makes you understand the purpose of you existence. It makes you understand that these sufferings are not permanent. All these things are very important from psychological point of view. And hence it gives you happiness.

You are quite observant. True, many of us experience anguish and suffering in certain phases of our lives, whether it's a financial crisis, an emotional trauma, or a nervous breakdown, and it's usually the best time to be introspective to re-examine one's self and try to determine how you got to where you got. Ask a hobo or a homeless person and you'll be surprised at what they'll say. And be sure to leave them some money for food.

Finding God during one's nadir or low point is quite cathartic, from my personal experience. It's not only enlightening but it becomes refreshing and exhilarating when you go through life with renewed vigor. And before long you find that you've unloaded a heavy burden that you had been carrying all alone... and you find inner Peace in your journey called Life. And with that Peace, you find Happiness.

True, religion can be habit-forming and addicting for those who realize and appreciate that they, too, can have a second or third chance to do better this time around.

I am religious 'coz the purpose of this life is to glorify Allah & to live by His commands then only we truly live & ultimately find peace and happiness.

Read before it’s too late and you’re dead
You owe it to yourselves, it will make you cry
You’ll know these words are from the Lord most High
Instructing mankind to the purpose of life
And the reward, my friends is everlasting life
Our purpose is to worship our Lord most High
The reward is heaven where no one will die
You’ll have anything you want, all the best dishes
And Almighty Allah will grant all of your wishes
This life, my friends is just a cage
We should live by His orders, to be safe from his rage
You will understand when you read the holy Quran
You’ll know the religion of truth is Islam
Protect yourself and your families from hell
Embrace Islam and all will be well
For the deeds of this life, you’ll pay the price
In the depths of hell or in paradise

Being attached with the Supreme creator and a sense of following Him positively gives oneself a boost in all regards and helps fight the calamity and hard times. But this is one small benefit 'of being religious'.

If you deprive yourself from this attachement then you are like a small bird which lost it's flock and is now vulnerable to all sorts of dangers.

By the way, if someone opts for not being religious, then would he be able to escape the aftermath of life after death?

Therefore being religious or otherwise is not like joining a club or leaving it. It's a way of life. You are either a beleiver or not.

If I do not beleive that being hit by an 18-wheeler would be harmful to me, would I save myself from being minced under it?

If I stop praying to God and reading His word I go away from Him and when I do that I feel terrible and depressed and lonely. So I keep on being close to my savior because He gives me life and a life more abundantly. Why would I want to be sad and lonely for?

Yes I didn't know what prince of peace was till I found Jesus and all the things that used to upset me, don't anymore. Yes I still have bad times, but they not near as bad as they used to be, my attitude better, it all around a much better life being close to my savior Jesus.

i'm a muslim cuz i BELIEVE THAT ISLAM IS THE ONLY TRUE RELLGION n that it has all the GUIDELINE for living my life in the best way...
i'm a muslim when i'm suffering n when i'm happy!!!!!
islam is such a beautiful relgion that it doesn't matter wether we'r suffering or not we always pray 5times a day.... we know that Allah's always there to help us in the time of suffering n we also know that He won't be happy if we go out our minds when we'r happy

im realistic about religion.
i follow the gods of Heathenry because at the end of the day i feel good about myself.
lets be realistic, thats what religion is all about. when you do good and honor your god(s) you feel good about yourself and you feel like you're going to go to where ever your heaven is.
