At present, most of the area is worse off than slums. The terrible thing is since hurricane season is here, a hurricane would probably finish off the city.
I will say there are some nice areas that have risen from the dead. It is likened to the Phoenix factor.
My take on this is we as Americans still need to honor New Orleans as a wonderful city. Sure there are not many areas to see; but a visit to Bourbon Street is a lifetime memory.
The people of New Orleans need our tourist dollars, not sympathy.
God bless New Orleans

Oh yeah! Lots of NOLA is untouced! There is Uptown, the Garden District, Downtown, the French Quarter, Kenner, all of the westbank, parts of Midcity and Carrolton, Metairie, and many more neighborhoods. If you go to one of these neighborhoods, you could guess there was no such thing as Katrina. If anyone tells you different, they are probably wrong. The only places that are bad are Lakeview, NOLA east, the 9th Ward, and St. Bernard. Touring those places would be a thing to do if you visited NOLA.
I live in NOLA so I know what it's like.

There is a lot of construction still in progress. And yes there are parts of New Orleans that are untouched. Like the Westbank area of New Orleans.

Well the weather is hot and humid, but expected. They are always rebuilding, but it's pretty much settled in. Things are back to normal in Louisiana. No worries. I mean if you live in Louisiana and don't expect a hurricane, then you're ignorant. We are so used to it. I was in Louisiana for Hurricane Andrew.
