A person can be categorised as a friend only if he or she helps another out from an adverse situation. That's why, a friend in the times of grave need is a friend in true sense. So, one should always try to increase the ever-lasting asset called FRIEND. This asset always dissolves all the liabilities. But to have one friend, you yourself needs to be one.

A friend's sincerity is put to test when you are in need
Because it is said that when a person is passing through difficulties , even his shadow betrays him
Thats how it is , A true friend is the one who is with you through thick and thin of life ,helps you and does all that he can ,for you!

well here's a story to make u understand.
2 friends were walking in the woods. suddenly they saw a bear. Instantly one of the friends ran up a tree and the other one seeing himself facing the bear pretended to be dead. The bear came and smelled the (pretending) dead body and went away.
After the bear left the friend who ran up the tree came down. He told his second friend "I saw the bear whispering in your ear, what did he tell you?"
he answered"yes, he told me that I have such a true friend who left me when he might have stood beside me when I needed him"

It means a person you know and whom is in need will suddenly be your best friend, although you may only know them casually. Were they not in need, they would only know you and not consider you a "friend".
The quote should read " a friend in need is a friend indeed.

That whoever is speaking is an uninventive, supercilious prat. There are some cliches that deserve to die horrible, painful, gory deaths.
