I've had the right one done, arthritis, and have to have the left done as well. It will take time to rehab and you will need assistance for a while. That pain isn't as much as I thought it would be but it still hurts. It will be about 6-8 months before you are 'back to normal'. But, sadly, you will have to have them done again.

It will be one, then the other, with at least six months in between.

Get the new ceramic and titanium joints. They last longer than the old chrome ones.

You will have to work with a physical therapist for a month after the surgery. Also, a nurse will have to check you a couple of times a week for two weeks.

Your doctor should be able to explain this all to you. Ask him. He owes it to you as you are going to be laying out some big bucks.

at your age-you dont need total hip replacement-what you need is birmingham hip resurfacing-its a newer technique(4 year old)--developed just for young patients who have ben advised thr(total hip replacement). This surgery is available only in england and in India, but yet to be develped in USA.I am telling you all this as a doctor. It is very cheap getting it done in India. My young cousin has got it done. This surgery gives you more flexibility with your joint movement as comapared to THR and takes less post operative healing time.it has become the gold standard for young arthritis patients. You can visit the website of one company that arranges all kinds of surgery for USA/UK/international patients in India.I read very often about them in newspapers about their successful patients.they are called the forerunners healthcare/website-
