i guess overall, i have only seen people decide to believe in god and become religious when they have suffered greatly.

i have not seen someone become a religious believer after they have had a tremendously happy experience in a life context in which there has been no recent or present suffering.

god may be seen to make people happy when there has been recent suffering or when there is present suffering however - causing them to become religious. imho

In my life it is quite the opposite. When I become extremely depressed, that is when I become doubtful of God's existence and a purpose to life.

When I am happy, that is when I believe more strongly in God.

Although I haven't "met" God yet, but I do have really good friends that met God through happiness. According to them, they didn't met Him during times of hardship or sufferings, but at times of joy and happiness.

Well perhaps it is like a search for happiness.
When people are already happy, they can attribute it to some other aspects of their life.
However, if they are not happy, sometimes they turn to religion as a solution.

i converted to a different faith during a time when i was extremely happy. my abusive boyfriend had moved to california, (granted i was going to move to be with him, but for the time i was free) i had a great job, i was volunteering at a local fire department and working on obtaining my Entry level Fire Fighter Credentials, and i was going to school to get my High School Diploma. i was able to spend time with my friends and family, something that my boyfriend never let me do.
i was incredibly happy. then i found a faith that made me even happier, and i went for it.

It takes shock, friction, and suffering to wake someone up. You get out of bed because an alarm clock jangles you-;- not because it sings you a lullaby .
