When they get a bit older don't let him act like a parent to her. My brother (10 years older) tried that stuff on me, telling me what to do, physically holding me down so I couldn't move until I listened to him, etc. Be aware of what they are doing when you aren't around. Don't always give him special privileges and tell your girl it's becasue he's older ALL THE TIME. She'll resent always being left out. Keep some of those things in mind for the future. Hopefully, get him involved now in showing her how to do things, playing with her, etc.
Of course mine was boy/boy... I think an older brother can be beneficial to a young sister.

Yeah my sister does she has four boys. Her oldest is nearly 12, then her second is 10 and her third is 8 and the youngest is 8months.darl it really doesn't matter the age gap I'm 17 and my eldest sister is nearly 30, my other sister is 28, and my brother is 25.. so it really really doesn't matter.

You'll end up with a dependant till you become really old. You'll have to earn and save money a lot more and a lot longer
On the other side, you'll have a child to cuddle up to for a long time.
I dont have such a huge age gap in my family.

Besides the attention for the 16 month old, everything should be fine. Your son would be a great help to his sister.

My sister and I are six years apart. I think that it will be great. A best friend and huge fan for her growing up. Then when she gets in her teen years, she will have another adult believing in her and guiding her in the right direction.

My son was 12 when my daughter was born. She is now 10 and is the apple of his eye. Don't mess with her, he will be on your back -
He takes her to movies, outings even with his fiance!!!
Thats how it will be - so let them become the best of friends with all their little fights. Your daughter is very lucky.

As long as one isn't neglected for the other, they can grow up really well together. Sure, you might have the initial sibling spat but as long as elder bro understands little sis and likewise, she'll have an excellent companion in him.
