Pray that God will use you and speak through you to him. God is the only one who knows what will get your friends attention so let Him guide you. Trust me, I've made the mistake of saying what I think instead of what God wanted me to say too many times to count. But I've also had true wisdom come from my mouth when I asked God to talk for me.

Your former bf?? LOL...

Well, that's neither here nor there. It's good that you 'fess up to your own limitations on his challenge. But if you're hell-bent on having a level-playing field, then load up on your side and find someone from your church [?] who can help you out... and don't get it from here!

Although, if push comes to shove, here's a ploy for you: Since you say that he's a Pagan, then he must believe in certain deities too. Most likely he's into pantheism [belief in many gods], which I guess is more nature-oriented. I'm guessing here...

In that case, you can always use the reasoning that you have ABSOLUTELY NO DOUBT that your /[our] Almighty God, the Supreme Being, and Creator, made all his gods and deities, too!

So there.

Peace be with you!

if you walk in the desert and find a watch in the middle of it, what would you conclude? there is no doubt in your mind that "someone" had been there before you and had dropped the watch, since nature could not have created the watch, it is too complex for it... right?
now, looking at the universe all the galaxies, all the complicated material, at the atomic level, at the biology level, there are many very complex systems in our bodies, is it possible that this complex universe was created by accendent? I don't think so.
When there is complexity, there should be a creator.
this is only one example, there are a lot more. I am sure after hearing this story he will have some follow up questions. therefor, I tell you this, before engaging with him in this discussion, pray to God and ask Him for wisdom. Let God overtake your heard and mind, and I am sure when you are in discussion with him, you will emaze yourself by the things and examples that you are using and I am sure you will succeed.

Good Luck and God bless you...

Psalm 19:1-6 says:

The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handiwork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. Their line is gone out through all the earth and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun. Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race. His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it; and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof

In every culture around the world, there has been some form of religion. Even those cultures that have never heard of what I believe is the one true god, they have some form of religion and something they worship.

A good book to get is below:

Nothing comes from nothing. This is common sense. Logic. Has your friend seen something come out of nothing? Everything comes from something. When you go back back back there'll be that which didn't come from anything, but from which everything emanates. That's God. The Supreme Person.

Who is he to say there is no God anyway? God is not such a subject matter that you can perceive with your senses or speculation. God gives you the intelligence to know him or to forget him.

Ask your friend whether he has any intelligence. If he says yes, tell him to show it. He cannot show it to you. Or show me love? He cannot. These things are subtle. What to speak of God. He's completely spiritual. With these mundane eyes, mundane brain, you cannot understand much of the full reality.

But this much everyone can understand: there is God, we are part and parcel of Him; a part is supposed to serve the whole; we should use this life for serving God as He wishes to be served, as He tells in the scriptures (for example Bhagavad Gita).

His path is as valid as yours. The experience you know as receiving the Holy Ghost is identical to his experience of invoking the Deity. Your believe that you need to save him is based on the idea that your belief is the only true belief and all others are going to hell. I don't care where you got the idea that that was true, it's arrogant. He is living the life which is right for him.

Remember the story of the good Sumeritan? Well, the Sumeritans were Pagan.

If you want him to believe that your ways are right, then life a good life according to your ideals and show him by example.

Ask him does he know what his purpose in life is. For example does a car know what its purpose is? No, only the one who invented it. We don't know our purpose in life only God does because He invented us and we our way more complex then a car. We were designed and invented to please God that is our purpose. Living for ourselves is empty only true happiness comes about through living for God. Here is a good analogy, say your walking in the middle of a forest and you stumble upon a watch that is on the ground and you wonder how it got there, sure your logical enough to think that someone designed and made that watch it couldn't have brought together all its intricate parts on its own after millions of years but we as a society our so foolish and illogical to think that our human bodies which our way more complex then anything in this universe are not designed and created by the greatest inventor of all, GOD! I strongly encourage you to read the book "The Purpose Driven Life" by Rick Warren, which has helped me and countless others to realize their true purpose in life. Here is some amazing facts about the human body:The smallest insect on this earth is made up of millions of living cells. There are some seventy-five trillion such cells in the body of an average man. But each individual cell is unbelievably complex. It has been demonstrated that the simplest living cell is vastly more complicated than the most sophisticated giant computer on earth! Each cell is a world brimming with as many as 200 trillion tiny groups of atoms called protein molecules. It is a micro-universe in itself! If the coded DNA instructions of a single human cell were put into English, they would fill a 1000-volume encyclopedia! The total length of the DNA strand in one cell is six feet. If all the DNA strands in the body were bunched up they could fit into a box the size of an ice cube. But if unwound and joined together, the string could stretch from the earth to the sun and back more than 400 times!

if he really is a dedicated pagan there may not be anything you can do to convince him. the proof that God exists is such a huge area for study that if he is not willing to seek it himself he isn't likely to ever believe. I took almost 18 years to finally figure out that I believed there was a God- and I was looking for him- I got there by looking into religions (all kinds) science and philosophy- I was raised in a Christian home, but never saw God's presence or even a hint that he existed in most "churches" I looked into.

It's virtually impossible to prove beyond the shadow of a doubt. But, tell him to look around and explain how all this could possibly exist without a designer. From the molecular level to the cosmic level, all this crap had to be designed by someone. To believe otherwise would, to me, seem more foolish.
