I must admit, I've always liked L.A. I like the creativity. I like the diversity. I like the sunshine. I like "Hollywood" (wherever it's actually located in the city these days. Burbank? The Valley? Westside? Studio City?). And I even like the theme parks.
In truth, my travels tell me large U.S. cities are more alike than they are different. To some extent, they all have racial problems, corruption problems, pollution problems, traffic problems, crime problems, etc.
So why is it that L.A. always get picked out as the worse? I think all the compliants people have about L.A., are really just reflections of things they dislike about their own communities.
Is there really no crime in Chicago, no rats in New York, no pollution in Houston, no rip-offs in San Francisco, no illegal immigration in DC, and no self-absorbed fakers in Miami?
These are not L.A. problems, they're American ones.

PRO's: A great city, just like any other large city there are it's great places and not so good areas. Downtown is a great place but, it doesn't compare to it's beached in Santa Monica or Maibu. It is very expensive but, it's because of how great it is, nobody would pay so much if it wasn't worth it.
CON's: The Traffic - It is the biggest evil in California is the traffic, unlike Chicago or New York, LA does not have a decent public transportation system.

LA is overrated. Bad traffic, confusing offramps, ppl are flat out rude when u want to get to that particular off ramp, and smoggy,
Pros--clubs aren't that bad. Good shopping and hangout places. Not to far from the beach cities. The 5 and 10 is right there for traveling. (5 takes u to N.Cali and the 10 takes u to Palm Springs and further) Farmers Markets isn't too bad. Nice to visit but not to live.

I have lived there and it's WAY overrated. There are bugs EVERYWHERE. There are druggies, prostitutes, drunks, etc. on EVERY street corner. It's FILTHY dirty. The only pros are that you can shop for just about anything and go to school for just about anything there.

I love LA. Everything everybody else said is true but you have to admit there is no other major city with better weather. It's beautiful, I love the cafes and restaurants and beaches and it is easy to get around it just takes lots of time.

If you have a lot of money it is fantastic - the entertainment capital of the world with all possible trimmings. It is all about attitude and leverage.
If you are on broke it is a nightmare - just put the "kick me" sign on your back, at least you won't get abused in other ways.
