I'm planning a vacation to Manhattan and it looks like I'm staying at the Newark Airport. Is there public transportation to get me from the airport to Manhattan?
How much do taxi's cost? Help, please!

I believe NJ Transit runs buses from Newark Airport to the Port Authority Terminal in NYC.

Here is a map of the NJ Transit rail system:

From Newark/Elizabeth, you can get on the train and head right into Penn Station in Manhattan. From there, get on the subway to anywhere. It's just about 30 minutes from the airport to Manhattan.

Catch the train at either the Elizabeth or North Elizabeth station, where it's $5 to NY. From Newark Airport, it's $14.

You can take a bus from Newark/Liberty that will take you into Port Authority, or a train into Penn Station. I think a taxi costs about $40 and you have to pay tolls which are about $8. Have a good vacation, but if I were you I try and get somewhere in Manhattan

Take New Jersey Trainsit's Airtrain into Penn Station, New York. Penn Station is in midtown Manhattan and although you can take taxis from there, there are at least 5 different subway lines you can access as well, and there are bus stops conveniently nearby. Taxis are convenient, but can get really expensive especially during busy traffic when you may be stuck caught in traffic (and the meter will be running.) The lowest fare would be around 7 bucks if you're just going about a mile or mile and half--then you have to add a tip. To go from downtown to uptown (for example from the South Street Seaport to the Metropolitan Museum of Art or Lincoln Center) you may already be shelling out 18 to 20 bucks.

With the subway and bus, you can buy a Metrocard for unlimited rides per day, week or month. In general, each ride is $2.00 regardless of distance.

Enjoy your stay!

You should stay in Manhattan if possible.

I suggest you rent a car if you have to stay in Newark.

But you can take public transportation to the PATH train (NJ Transit) that takes you into Manhattan. It's about a 30 or 40 minute ride.

Enjoy your vacation!
