why do girls say they want nice, sweet guys but go for bad, selfish ones?

Because nice sweet guys tend to be introverts and don't step up and are not leaders when they need to be (not all of them but most of them) they also tend to have a rural mentality. I think a woman wants a man who considers her like the nice guy but is overt like the bad guy. Finding this combination is difficult at best.

The truth is harder to realize, I figured it was that girls between 26 and 18 are just shallow and self absorbed and look only on exterior which is still true to an extent but the sad truth is that girls today don't have a clue about what they need. they don't understand that they need a secure man a trustworthy man a person like with a career and stability and one who nurtures and supports them and even challenges them to bring out the best in them. Who loves them no matter the tough and good times, but no today all they know is what MTV says and they haven't matured since High School they just want a cute boy toy who is fun to be around and gives the impression that he understands them so basically they choose bad cause thats all they know. Well, that's not true about ALL girls, but for the majority, it is. I think that every girl has had at least one nice guy, and they get fed up with the nice ones because they turn out to be wimpy mama's boys. Now, if there is a girl dating a mama's boy and then mama doesn't like the girlfriend, the mama will probably do everything in her power to get rid of the girlfriend. If the guy is a TRUE mama's boy, he'll listen to her and not follow his heart, which winds up breaking the girl's heart, which pretty much makes her say "Screw the nice guys! I need a man that can stand up for himself!" Just my opinion though. Could be wrong.

Because bad selfish ones are able to effectively play on girls' emotions. They trick them, fool them and manipulate them until they get what they want and then show their true images, but sweet guys, nice as they are, seldom are aware of what a woman needs and what attracts her in a man.

The reason is nature. A "bad guy" is also a "strong guy"(for the most part), one that can protect the family/wife/etc. In society, "bad guys" are frowned upon, hence the dilemma. Protection of the family vs. societal acceptance. Society is a relatively recent development which is why protection seems to win for most of the time.
