Also, does anyone who knows what Celiac (which is how its spossed to be spelled) is, do you have any suggestions of explaining it to the ignorant and thoose who don't think much past 'a car is comeing, I should probly get out of its way'.... even young children. I've been saying I'm allergic to wheat, and someone has accually said: Mom! Do we have any bread that isn't whole wheat?
Its hard to explain my disease when I only have 10 second to make them understand...

I don't know any for sure but my sisters kids just found out a couple of months ago that they have it too. They are 8 and younger there are 5 of them. I know she has them on the diet for it. But i looked it up for her on the computer. Just google search Celiac Disease and there is a lot to read about it and there are some sight you can go to that might help you . I hope you can find something there. Because nobody should go through any disease alone. Good luck.

Celiac disease is a metabolic disorder in which the body is unable to digest (hydrolyse) the amino acids found in gluten. Gluten is found in wheat, oats and barley. You can tell people that you were born with the inability to digest wheat, oats and barley and that it's common. By the way, your prognosis (outlook) for a full recovery is excellent!

If you will run a search for "Celiac support groups", you will see at #1 on the list is Celiac Support Groups in the U.S., the website is www.enabling.org. Good luck, my friend, you have a bright future ahead of you.

Actually celiac sprue is pretty common to varying degrees. You are now part of an interesting group of people who learn much much more about food than almost anyone else. I think people will soon see you as an expert on food choices and ingredients. You will become a local celebrity in your town and maybe they will do a little article on you in the local paper. Then you will see how people will have lots of time to listen you and they will be proud to say they are your friend. Good luck!
