The Germans at the time had technology comparable or superior to most countries of the time prior to the advent of A-Bomb. The Germans were well trained and had expert leadership.
Toward the end of the war, Germany had in development: nukes (heavy water), long range rockets/missiles, jet propulsion, the STG-44 (grandfather to the AK-47) among other things. They were a civilized society, but the ideology of their leadership would ultimately prove to be their downfall...
The regular army didn't fight a guerilla war that I know of. They used conventional means like the Allies.

The German War Machine was probably one of the BEST military fighting machines of it's time and almost of all time.
I compare the militants of Iraq and Afghanistan to the Mafia types. Mostly just a bunch of well armed thugs making up the rules and plans as they go.
They are not very well organized, as well as not very well equipped. They fight like cowards with suicide bombers, and expect to be taken into the gates of heaven by MURDERING innocent lives.
The Germans where at least uniformed men. They have some similarities about wanting to kill Jew's and people who are not their own, however, there is a night and day difference...

'the german war machine was more organized, better equipped. much superior in "traditional" terms. i'd compare iraq and afganistan more to viet nam. and even there the viet cong seemed more organized and better equipped and with a clearer objective

The Germans were know for their organizational skills. The Iraqis & Afganistans are more like gang warfare.
The terrorist cells are setup like little gangs so that there is little posibility of wiping out the lot.

Not even close, as they were unified and organized, albeit towards the wrong goal.
